On January 4, 2012 I got married! A lot of people have been asking if I'm going to change my company name. (dun dun dun....)
The answer is.......

No. I will be changing my last name, but I will not be changing my company name. It will remain Tora Jones Photography.

I decided to take some portraits of my brother. I saw him standing with his nikes on, and this is what popped in my head. So I asked him if we could do a photoshoot. I loved his sneakers so I took a portrait of them.

I also wanted to take a photo of him with his dog Weezee.

We went to the backyard and took some more portraits. Then I took another portrait of his sneakers.

Later, we found a flash light and decided to draw with light. This is a portrait of Ray, writing his name with light.

Then I thought it would be cool to draw smoke around him. This is a portrait of my brother and I. I am moving around really fast with the flash light, so you can't see me. But, I love how the light looks.

After, I turned off the light, and had him stand next to the tv. Then, I drew around him with light.

I haven't been living in Atlanta long, and I can already say it feels like home. I had a photo shoot this weekend with the brains behind BCMG. I had complete creative control of the photo shoot, so I was excited. I found locations that were detailed, very colorful, and I had fun.

Wendy & Shelia were best friend throughout grade school & high school. After high school graduation, and having children they slowly drifted apart. A few months ago they found each other on facebook, and couldn't be any happier....

So it's been a while since I last posted anything so I figure I'd let you guys know what's going on with me. I moved from Boston to Atlanta!!! So now I am based out of Atlanta, GA. But don't worry I still travel world wide so I can always be where ever you need me to be.

Anyways.....

I was able to revisit one of my favorite families before the big move. Ava has gotten so big already! She just turned 4 so we decided to take pictures at her favorite place, the playground.

In 3 months she will be a big sister, so she got to have a "special day". Lots of fun with with ONLY her and daddy!

i was on the train and as I got off at downtown crossing I noticed these sparkling shoes. I walked by, then turned around, walked back and gave the young man my business card. So it's been a while..... Life has just been so busy and I'm loving every minute of it. In Feb. I shot the cover for Teen Voices magazine. (for the spring/summer issue) It came out about 6 weeks ago.

Teen Voices: "Our Spring/Summer 2010 print magazine has cover stories on bullying, sex trafficking, online do's and don'ts, how to write an amazing college essay, and much more. And it's all teen-generated! Get your copy and help us change the world for girls through media!"

It feels great to open up such a distinguished magazine and read COVER PHOTOGRAPHED BY TORA JONES. It was such a fun experience working with the girls. They wanted a fresh new look for the magazine.

The rules I had to follow:

-use journalist in Teen Voices magazine

-use a location in Boston, Ma

-be sure the girls are not "just looking at the camera"

So I gave them a few photos to choose from, and I was pleasantly surprised when I received my issue in the mail. Finally my family is getting back to normal. We were all sick for so long that it feels so good to be healthy again. And now I'll be sure to remember to take my vitamins. :) Anyways...

I have been taking TONS of pictures. I just shot my first magazine cover!!! (feels GREAT to get paid for doing what you love!) While doing this photo shoot I realized how much my school taught me. I was so comfortable, loving what I was doing, and they loved the final photos.

I am in the process of building a new portfolio. I am creating the pictures I see in my head. UMMM...let me explain. There is a woman that lives very close to me. I see her all the time and think to myself, "she's really beautiful I should ask to take her picture...", SO GUESS WHAT I DID! I asked to take her picture, and she said yes! She is a very beautiful person inside and out, and she has a really cool house. :)

I love when people let me take the pictures I see in my head...

I have been practicing my on-location lighting by taking my camera with me EVERYWHERE. I have been using more natural light, and of course my flash & ttl cord (my favorite!) So I went downtown to take a picture of my son, in front of some of my art that is currently displayed downtown Boston. (at 4 Ave De Lafayette)

I decided to stop a few people and ask them to take pictures. I figured I could make a game of it and see how many people would say yes if I said, "Excuse me are you in a rush? Can I take your picture?" and to my surprise alot of people said yes, more than I expected. Here are a few. (these photos were all taken in less than 60 seconds, literally!)

My son is already 5 months old. He is growing so fast. He loves to read bright colorful books and laugh. I decided to take some photos of him while he was watching his favorite monster, Elmo. He has taught me to be more patient. That it's ok to just sit and wait for the picture that I want. To take more risks with light, and most of all to play and LAUGH EVERYDAY!

I love what I'm capturing.

A day with my god daughter....

I spent the day with my god daughter. Already 9 months, she is growing fast and getting smarter everyday. She can say "da-da" and "ma-ma", and has already used the potty! During the day we went to her appointment, out to lunch, then the salon.

I decided to bring my camera and capture some images of our day. She laughed with my son, and they spoke in baby talk. It was nice to watch two babies interacting with the world.
